Having been extremely disappointed by Soulwax at Glastonbury - nothing soulful or waxy - they were altogether a different experience at Reading

OK, they still have the problem that they are Belgians, wear dodgy beige suits and have really naff microphone stands (great for photos but naff otherwise) - but the success of the single 'Too Many DJ's' really seems to have made a difference. The crowd was surfing, even the use of Bach's Toccata and Fugue as an intro seemed to go down well, and the introduction of their Mexican MC (I think) added a real prog-rock flavour to the set. My fault, I buggered off for a beer after three songs of theie Glasto set having worked up only a passing admiration for their bassist (for his bass playing I hasten) - but having stayed the course at Reading it would appear that Soulwax do have something to offer. Not everyone's cherry beer, but worth keeping an eye on.
