SOULWAX
- Interview...
We
caught up with the quirky brothers - frontman David and guitarist
Stephen - of pioneering Belgian rockers 'Soulwax', backstage
at V2000 Chelmsford. As you will discover, they're not as
other bands...
VF:
What do you think of V2000 then?
David:
I did enjoy playing here. The crowd was very female.
VF:
...and the atmosphere?
David:
When we were playing the vibe was very female.
VF:
What's your favourite festival?
Stephen:
Obviously V2000 because it's very feminine. It should be called
Feminine 2000, Female 2000.
David:
Yeah. F2000.
VF:
Who would play your dream festival?
D:
Madonna.
S:
Kraftwerk
D:
I would have.. Prince with the Revolution.
S:
Queens of the Stoneage.
D:
I would have...Les Rhythmes Digitales
S:
Chris Whitley...
D:
I would have....err. Chemical Brothers...
(A
volley of bands ensues. A bit like a quick fire round on a
gameshow.)
VF:
Ok. Who have you managed to see here so far?
S:
We've been doing interviews for about three hours so we've
managed to see nothing. We want to see Supergrass though.
S:
If we were here tomorrow we'd definitely go see Coldplay,
Paul Weller and the Dandy Warhols.
D:
Yeah. Our sound mixer is remixing the Dandy Warhols.
VF:
Should you trust a hippy?
D:
They're probably the most trustworthy person. Especially at
V2000. They're probably the only non-yuppie or non-sponsered
guy.
VF:
What's next for you then?
D:
We're DJing on Monday at The End in London.
S:
Then the Kerrang thing at Virgin records and then Reading.
VF:
Are you looking forward to Reading?
S:
Oh yeah. It'll be great. There are a lot of bands playing
that I haven't seen yet so...
VF:
What do you enjoy most? DJing or the band thing?
D:
It's a lot easier to DJ. and it's less stressful. So that's
the main thing.
VF:
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
S:
Brazil.
(The
brothers have just done an interview for MTV Brazil.)
D:
Maybe Japan.
S:
No Brazil. Good weather, good drugs good women. It's very
feminine in Brazil.
Thanks
to Emma and Nick.
